Ingleside Honors Local Community Leaders

On May 24, 2010, Ingleside Homes recognized four local community leaders for their outstanding contribution to Ingleside Homes during their tenure as Board members: Thomas A. Gilligan, CPA, CVA, CFE, DABFA, Vice President of Horty & Horty, PA; Duncan Patterson, Owner/President Patterson Woods; Deborah Wilson,PhD, Professor, Howard University; Barry Zias, Owner, Aerie Consultants.

The Trustees served on Ingleside’s Board from 2004 - 2010. During their tenure, the organization created a model assisted living program located at 1605 North Broom. The business model, which uses zero debt service and the Medicaid Waiver Program, allows any medically qualified senior to receive care, regardless of their level of income.

Under Dr. Wilson’s leadership, the organization expanded its programs to include a home health care program where seniors can receive home healthcare services without a minimum hour requirement. This program uses a sliding scale fee to adjust the rate to levels of affordability for the low-income elderly. Mr. Patterson, Mr. Zias and Mr. Gilligan also led numerous studies and conducted strategic planning for the organization; which resulted in the proposed development of 1010 North Broom as additional affordable housing for the elderly.

History

Ingleside Homes originated from an organization called the Episcopal Church Home Foundation, under the leadership of Bishop J. Brook Moseley. This group operated “The Home for the Aged” located at 1010 N. Broom Street in the Cool Spring area for 14 years. In the early 1970s, the Episcopal Church Home Foundation merged with a consortium of Episcopalians, Methodists, and Presbyterians who were interested in improving health care for the low-income elderly. This group became Ingleside Homes, Inc., and built Ingleside Retirement Apartments, a 15 story high rise, HUD 236 facility, with 208 apartments for the elderly on the property between Franklin and Broom Street.

Today, Ingleside owns and operates Ingleside Retirement Apartments as well as Ingleside Assisted Living at 1605 North Broom Street, thus continuing the tradition of excellent heathcare for the elderly of the Delaware Valley.
